What Happened to You?

When I address my clients with this question is to unravel the imprint of Trauma, a somatic time warp that prevent us to live the present moment, so deeply inhabited by our body and mind, that often we don't even know it's there.

The origin of the word Trauma is from the ancient Greek it means "wound" those wounds inflicted by past childhood adversities, dictate much of our behaviour in adult life, shapes our social habits, and tells us how to think about the world, or how to react to it. Trauma effects all areas of our life including closest relationships, causing a ripple of reactions.

In 1889 Pierre Janet described traumatic memory "automatic actions and reactions, sensations and attitudes, replayed and reenacted in visceral sensation" follow by the recent Peter Levine leading trauma psychologist , he written that certain shocks to the organism can "alter a person's biological, [psychological, and social equilibrium to such a degree that the memory of one particular event came to taint, and dominate, all other experiences, spoiling an appreciation of the present moment". Levine calls this "the tyranny of the past"

Some the wounds are embedded in the nervous system, which includes the brain and other parts of the body, stored in the deeper part of our brain as to protect us from responding to them on a regular basis, however, they are easily triggered, once conscious, explicit memories dictate our behaviours.

Trauma has become a buzzword in our society; however, the use of the word Trauma implies an inner injury, or a split of oneself, following hurtful experiences. In my practice working with Trauma is to explore the impact that impedes the individual to flourish, unresolved emotions, the view of the world, and other people.
